M100 Galaxy

M100 galaxy is a classic grand design spiral galaxy with well-defined spiral arms. Located in the constellation Coma Berenics, M100 galaxy is one of the brightness galaxy in the Virgo Cluster of approximately 2,500 galaxies. A truly majestic galaxy, M100 lies some 56 million light-years away and it is about 1.5 times the size as our Milky Way galaxy. In this composite image, visible lights are represented by red, green and blue colors, X-ray is represented by yellow color and infrared light is represented by red color. M100 is titled nearly face-on giving astronomers excellent opportunities to image and study the galaxy in details.
